Summer “CELEBRATE” juried exhibit July 13-Sept 7-NEW Deadline

NEW DEADLINE for CELEBRATE!–Summer Capitol Hill Art League (only) exhibit July 13-Sept. 7th, 2018

Capitol Hill Art League presents an exhibition July 13, 2018 at Dr. Nishan Halim’s Dentistry office as part of his practice’s 5th Anniversary. We are looking for bright, fun, interesting pieces to celebrate the office’s five years on Capitol Hill.  This is CHAL members only juried exhibition. CHAL’s own artists, Kimberley Bursic and Sarah Porter are the jurors.

Dr. Halim’s office has presented CHAL art shows over the years and promises to have a crowded reception party with many potential art buyers!  Please look at your google group email sent with  all important details, dates, entry code and instructions to submit your artwork digitally through CHAL’s Smarter Entry. NEW Deadline to enter is June 15th.

Artists’ Picks

 All-media, members-only, non-juried exhibit

Our second non-juried show of the season, “Artists’ Pick” begins in June 2018.  It is time for EVERY MEMBER of Capitol Hill Art League to strut your stuff.  You may bring one piece (only) of artwork to CHAW on June 16, between 9:30 and 11:30 am.  We will hang them as they arrive.  If there is wall space left for more art at the end of receiving on Saturday, we will let you know by email, and those of you who did not make it on Saturday can bring your art on Monday June 18, between 9:30 and 11:30 am. Fee: $5 for 1 piece. 

There will be a “People’s Choice Award” at the reception, 5-7 pm on June 23rd.  This show ends July 14.

This is a member only show. We invite YOU to become a member if you would like to submit to this exhibit before or during the receiving dates listed.


Receiving: Saturday, June 16th & Monday, June 18th, 9:30–11:30 AM

Exhibition dates: June 18 to July 14th
Opening Reception and “People’s Choice Award”: June 23rd, 5–7 PM

(Volunteers needed for all of the dates listed above! We cannot do it without our volunteers.)

Artwork may be no larger than 16 x 20” or weigh no more than 30 pounds.  As always, works must be properly prepared to hang on our Walker system.
2-D Works must have a hanging wire securely and tightly strung on screw-in eyelets,
D-rings, or screw-in brackets (for metal frames)

3-D Works must be able to safely sit on one of our pedestals.

REMAX Reception for CHAL artists

Remax office on 7th Ave SE has chosen to exhibit CHAL artists on a two month rotation basis. Our first reception at REMAX will be April 19 from 6-8pm. Please invite your friends and family ! Exhibit ends July 6. Pick up date: July 6 & 7.  Please check your group google email for details on the next round.

Garrison Restaurant is offering diners who attend this CHAL exhibit on April 19 a 15% discount coupon to use at Garrison. These coupons will be given out on a limited basis April 19 at Re/Max. Reservations are strongly suggested for diners, especially on weekends.

Capitol Hill Art League proudly presents our  annual members’ exhibit from 2017-2018 Season of CHAL members/juried winning artists. Exhibit Dates: July 20-August 18, 2018.   Please note: All artwork MUST be removed by Aug. 19-CHAW is painting the gallery. 

OUR WORLD exhibit April 18-May 31, 2018

The Capitol Hill Art League presents its Seventh Annual Metro DC open juried exhibition: April Show, Theme “Our World” 2018

April 22nd is the anniversary of the modern-day environmental movement.  What better time to honor our world.  We and the world around us is in a constant state of flux, influenced by climate, inhabitants, events, time, and gravity.  The Capitol Hill Art League invites you to express in art form what OUR WORLD means to you? This exhibit is open to 2-d and 3-d work, juried by curator and writer, Eric Hope.

All artists, 18 years of age or older residing in the Washington, DC metropolitan area are eligible to enter. Digital Entry Deadline for submissions is March 10, 2018 (midnight).

Exhibit Dates: April 18-May 31, 2018

Juror: Eric Hope/curator and writer based in Washington, DC,  gained a passion for contemporary art through volunteer marketing work at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and The Phillips Collection.  In 2009, after over a decade of work at large institutions, he  moved into the realm of curation, staging a variety of solo and group exhibitions at the Evolve Urban Arts Project in the H Street neighborhood of DC.  He is currently a senior Contributor at East City Art, where he has extensively critiqued exhibitions throughout the metro region for the past seven years.

Digital ENTRY:  Selections for the exhibit will be made by the judge from JPEG images submitted online by the artists.  All work must be original and signed by the artist.  Any work previously shown at a Capitol Hill Art League juried exhibit is ineligible. All work must have been created within the last three years.  ENTRY FEES: **Up to 3 entries may be submitted for a non-refundable fee of $30 (current Capitol Hill ART League members $20). Up to two additional entries may be submitted at $5 each.  Artists submitting 3-dimensional work may provide two images of each piece. To enter, go to and follow the instructions there.

Where: CHAW.  Opening reception: April 21. NEW CLOSING DATE: May 31

Awards will include cash awards for Best in Show and Merit awards. Two Honorable Mentions will be awarded. All awards will be presented at the opening reception and judge’s talk on April 21, from 5:00-7:00 PM with the juror presenting his remarks at 6pm.
